"Mata mata are South American freshwater turtles that have a specialized skin structure on top of their heads resembling a fallen leaf. This purportedly aids them in catching prey. Recently, a new species of mata mata (Chelus orinocensis) was discovered in the Orinoco River of the Amazon Basin."
